The Big Fat Rat Race

The alarm went off before the sun could shine,
I had hit on ‘snooze’ once more with a whine;
As I pulled the quilt back upon my face,
It croaked to say, “Go rush, join the rat race!”
I woke with a start, and went for a shower,
Till I began to smell like the jasmine flower;
I buttoned my cuffs and tied the shoelace,
Heck! I am running late to grace the rat race!
I whirled my wheels; you would think I were Schumacher,
I raced through the cars just like a growth hacker;
Jumped signals, uttered curses, without a sorry face,
Back-off, clear my path, I have to ace the rat race!
I reached my cubicle, and sat on my chair,
I opened my inbox, and found a whole layer,
Of mails and work, I had to greet and embrace,
Welcoming me to a brand new day of the rat race.
It was only Tuesday, but my mind had already counted,
Full three days to go, before the weekend had mounted;
So on I went with my work, I had to keep pace,
Pulled my socks up; thanked the Lord, I had made it to the rat race!
